The Torghar Police Book Workers and ANP leaders over protest

MANSEHRA: The leaders and members of the Awami National Party were arrested by the Torghar police for demonstrating in the streets earlier this week against the purported misappropriation of development funds.

Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code was used to file a formal complaint against ANP district president Abdul Qadir Basikhel, Kunder Hassanzai tehsil chairman Mian Nazeer, and 15 other employees and office-bearers at the Judbah police station for the rally on February 18.

Police said that the ANP leaders and members broke the PPC’s Section 144, which forbade rallies.

The Darband-Thakot Road, which links Torghar with the Karakoram Highway and Hazara Expressway, was blacktopped by the demonstrators, who claimed that corruption was involved.

Momeen Gul Bacha, the leader of the ANP, denounced the FIR and claimed that the police action infringed upon their democratic right to voice their disapproval of development project irregularities.

They said that in order to stop the ANP from protesting, the deputy commissioner enforced Section 144 at the request of a local member.

The leaders of the ANP promised to keep advocating for the district’s advancement.

Meanwhile, a four-person gang of robbers was allegedly busted here by the police.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Javed Khan, accompanied by SHO of Saddar police station Israr Shah, informed reporters that the bandits had stolen dozens of electrical transformers from various locations throughout the district and Hazara division.

He claimed that various villages and towns, including Khawari and Chitta, were affected by numerous instances of transformer theft.

According to the DSP, a special police team detained Muslim Mian from Kohistan, Amir Saeed from Haripur, and Muhammad Siddique from Shergar in Oghi. They also confiscated the costly stolen transformer parts.

He declared, “Our team is still conducting raids to apprehend other gang members.”

Residents of Oghi and the adjacent suburbs, meanwhile, called for an end to unplanned and protracted power outages in the city and its environs.

The locals, led by elder Saifur Rehman, informed reporters that Pesco had been causing them to experience extended outages for a number of weeks.

They complained and brought up the matter with local lawmakers and Pesco authorities, but to no avail.
